Community Notifications During Emergencies

Johnny Morales, Emergency Management Coordinator, City of La Porte

Expo A3

Communication during an emergency is most critical. Yet, communications continue to be at the top of every after-action report and critique across all incidents locally and abroad. The general public does not hesitate to make this fact apparent to community leaders and emergency managers.   The City of La Porte faced several challenges in 2021 due to industrial incidents, including but not limited to a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI), a Potential Tank Explosion requiring evacuation, and an Odor Incident with far-reaching impacts resulting in a shelter in place. All of which allowed the City and Local Emergency Planning Committee to review processes for improvement.    The local emergency manager will share lessons learned and explain the importance of having strong relationships between industry and your local jurisdiction.
