Conditions for Exemption from the Industrial and Hazardous Waste Permitting Process

Bob Patton, RCRA Federal Program Manager, TCEQ, and Carol Bao, Project Manager for the Industrial and Hazardous Waste Permits Section, Waste Permits Division, TCEQ

Floral A2

Not all waste management facilities need a permit. Only approximately 1% of hazardous waste generators in Texas are permitted. Exemptions from the Requirements for a Permit fall into three categories: exempt waste management activities, exempt waste management units, and exempt waste management facilities. Activities, units, and waste management facilities exempt from permitting frequently still need to register with the TCEQ, or provide a required notification.
